Many organisations require large injections of income from time to time. This money can come from a Capital Campaign. However, before an organisation commences a Capital Campaign it needs to determine whether there is sufficient community support for the organisation itself and the proposed project in particular. A Feasibility Study will assist in this process because it questions, measures, qualifies, verifies and listens to honest answers to hard questions. Most importantly it helps identify potential key volunteer leaders and potential key contributors.

The first question that needs to be considered when planning a Feasibility Study is, "Who should conduct the Feasibility Study?" A Feasibility Study can be done by either in-house staff or a consultant or both. To determine which to use the following issues must be addressed:

Objectivity
Experience
Independence
Confidential gathering of personal information
The need for honest answers to get to the truth of the situation.
A Feasibility Study needs to address a number of issues. They are:
The needs and case for support
The organisations strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
The goals
The prospects
The leadership potential
The timing and competition
The public relations requirements
The budget
The volunteers
Staffing resources
